I think it was fine for Sam to hide the gun from him only if he doesn't use it, but it does not look like he is going to use it anyway. I think the reason he isn't telling his Father about the gun is to stay close to his brother or make him feel close to him because he left the family. I think he shouldn't go any farther about not following his Father's rules.

    I disagree. All of the times where Sam has had to deal with the gun, he was uncomfortable. By keeping it with him, things have only gotten worse.

    You may be right about keeping the gun to stay close to his brother, but keeping it in the house is still a bad idea.
