Sam should dispose of the gun immediately. When troubled people have guns it always means bad news. Also, he should keep going to the Black Panthers meetings. They might be a little violent, but they are really just sticking up for a cause. His dad and Martin Luther King tried being peaceful, but Dr. King got shot, so it really seems like the only way to fight the racism was to use violence.
Dr. King was brave, and I really wish that peace could have worked while keeping the movement's leaders, like MLK, alive. But it seems that the black panthers have a different way of securing racial equality, and I think that their way should have a shot also.
ReplyDeleteI must respectfully disagree with you. although I am sympathetic with the black panthers, I deplore their methods. non-violent protest is better than violence because violence will surely perpetuate a conflict until one or both sides is destroyed, where-as non-violence is simply more effective at convincing the opposition. you cannot force someone to change their opinions with a gun but you can by reason with them...hopefully.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you, Julia. Using a gun would only provoke the opposition to do more harm. Use words, not guns!
ReplyDeleteI agree with both Juliam and Julia C. Violence will only cause more violence. Think about it, I hit you, you hit me, I break your arm and send you do the hospital, your brother comes and shots me. This could go on and on and on.
ReplyDeleteWell said Kelia! Although I definitely agree with you Michael. As long as Sam doesn't get involved in the violence behind the Black Panthers, going to the meetings could really benefit him.
