I think Sam should find out more about the Black Panthers before he makes his decision, but ultimately he should side with his father. Violence may seem easier and faster, but nonviolence in many ways takes more strength and is more likely to produce the outcome he is looking for, equality. Stick and Father are ultimately working for the same goal, and both ways of working for it have dangerous consequences. Unlike Stick, Fathers way of going about it does not change his beliefs, it strengthens them. I think I would side with Sam's father.
